Construction has begun on Landsvirkjun’s wind power project, Vaðalda Wind Farm, which until recently was known as Búrfellslundur. The first concrete works were carried out yesterday, with foundations poured for the first of 28 planned wind turbines.
Contractor Ístak is responsible for constructing various project structures, including crane pads, work areas for the future wind turbines, foundations for the turbines themselves, as well as the central substation. In total, 28 wind turbines will be erected at Vaðalda.
The project also involves the installation of approximately 80 kilometers of underground cables connecting the turbines to the substation — a task that entails significant earthworks.
