Construction began in June on the project “Fífilsgata – Hrafnsgata.” The work involves completing Fífilsgata in its final form, with pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as part of Hrafnsgata.
During the construction period, traffic in the area will be redirected. According to Ólafur M. Birgisson, Director of the Construction Division at NLSH, Fífilsgata was closed on August 29 and will remain closed until October.
Public buses will therefore be rerouted via Njarðargata to the old Hringbraut while the work is underway.
In addition, vehicle access to the Children’s Hospital will be temporarily changed later in the construction period (to be announced separately). Drivers will enter the parking area for the Children’s Hospital from the east, below the Women’s Clinic building.
The project also includes the installation of new sewage, heating, and cold-water pipelines. Completion is scheduled for the turn of the year 2025/26.
