The Árborg Municipal Council has granted Hekla hf. a provisional allocation for a commercial plot at Fossnes 11–13 in Selfoss. The company plans to commence construction later this year.

The plot, for which the Municipal Council has granted a commitment, is located at Fossnes 11–13, adjacent to Atlantsolía and directly facing the main entrance into Selfoss. There has been constructive dialogue between the municipality and the management of Hekla hf., which has expressed strong interest in expanding its operations within the municipality.
“It is encouraging to see strong companies such as the car dealership Hekla looking to grow in Árborg. The area has a strong tradition of quality retail and service businesses, and the expansion of Hekla hf. will further strengthen the company’s current services and create additional jobs in the region,” says Bragi Bjarnason, Mayor of Árborg.
“Many companies see opportunities for growth in South Iceland, thanks to improvements in transportation, the development of import and export harbours, and a growing population that increasingly seeks employment on this side of the mountain pass,” Bragi adds.
Hekla hf. plans to start construction this autumn, with a car dealership and related services to be developed on the site.
