Landowners lose Landsnet battle

The Reykjavík District Court has rejected the demand of landowners to invalidate Landsnet’s authority to expropriate their land. The company plans to construct part of the Suðurnesjalína 2 power line on the disputed property.

The Reykjavík District Court today dismissed a lawsuit filed by the owners of three farms in the municipality of Vogar. The landowners sought to overturn a ministerial decision from last year that granted Landsnet the authority to expropriate their land.

The company intends to construct the Suðurnesjalína 2 overhead power line across parts of their properties.

Guðmundur Ingi Ásmundsson, CEO of Landsnet, stated that the ruling was fully expected, describing it as clear-cut and in line with the company’s expectations.

Construction work has already begun, with ground preparation underway for the overhead lines in Vogar. Landsnet aims to complete the project by the end of the year.

“Given how clear the ruling was, we hope this will be the final decision,” said Guðmundur Ingi.

This project is extremely important. The situation in Reykjanes is difficult, and it is crucial that we complete these works to improve security in the region, given the current circumstances.
