Two bidders for Fossvogur Bridge—both above cost estimate

Two bids were submitted after Betri samgöngur ohf. tendered construction of Alda, the bridge planned to span Fossvogur. Both bids came in above the estimate.

According to a press release from Betri samgöngur, the bridge contract was tendered in the European Economic Area in May. The estimated cost of the bridge construction was ISK 5.96 billion, but the bids are more than thirty percent higher than the estimate.

The first bid, from Ístak hf. and Per Aarsleff A/S, totaled just under ISK 7.9 billion. The second, from Depenbrock Scandinavia ApS and Depenbrock Ingenieurwasserbau GmbH & Co., was just over ISK 8.2 billion. The bids are therefore 33 percent and 38 percent above the estimate, respectively.

“It is worth noting that the contract for coastal protection and land reclamation for the Fossvogur Bridge, concluded last January, came in at 70% of the estimated contractor cost,” the release states.

In January, the first phase of works began for the bridge, consisting of coastal protection and land reclamation on Kársnes in Kópavogur and in Reykjavík. The bridge is expected to be completed in 2028.
