The measures announced by the government on housing policy sound promising to contractors and estate agents, as far as they go. It is now up to politicians to deliver on their big words, they say.
Contractors and estate agents welcome the government’s housing package – particularly the plans to continue allowing the use of private pension savings for mortgage payments and to strengthen shared ownership loans.
The outcome, however, depends on how the measures are implemented and followed through.

Vignir Steinþór Halldórsson, managing director of the construction company Öx, says the package is promising.
That said, much remains unclear about the details. Simplifying regulations is crucial, and support for young people buying their first homes is a positive development.

Monika Hjálmtýsdóttir, chair of the Association of Estate Agents, says it is important that the government maintains active dialogue with the housing sector.
She particularly welcomes the decision to make the private pension savings scheme a permanent option.
There have long been plans to abolish the scheme, which has been criticised for primarily benefiting higher-income earners.
