Eyjólfur Ármannsson, minister for infrastructure, Bergþóra Þorkelsdóttir, director general of Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration), and Valdimar Víðisson, mayor of Hafnarfjörður, formally opened the dual-carriageway road section on Reykjanesbraut between Krýsuvíkurvegur and Hvassahraun yesterday.

This was the only remaining section of Reykjanesbraut from Hafnarfjörður to Fitjar in Reykjanesbær that had yet to be upgraded to a dual carriageway.

According to Vegagerðin, average daily traffic on Reykjanesbraut last year was 21.400 vehicles.
The road connects Keflavík Airport to the capital area, as well as serving settlements on the north side of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
