Construction of the New National Hospital Research Building

Construction of the New National University Hospital research building has progressed well in recent weeks, with important milestones ahead. Work is currently focused on the top floor, where the last roof slabs are being cast. In parallel, steel structures are being installed throughout the building.

“The contractor is seeking to complete the concrete works in the western section of the building, which should be finished shortly. The building’s structural concrete frame is expected to be topped out in November, although steel installation will continue thereafter, as there is still plenty of secondary steel to erect, such as external escape-stair towers and service corridors. It’s also worth noting that fabrication of rooflights, stairs and handrails is in preparation.

Preparation of the roof-finish tender is also underway,” says Árni Kristjánsson, site engineer at NLSH.
