Construction of the new Fossvogur Bridge is progressing well, according to Davíð Þorláksson, Managing Director of Betri samgöngur, the entity overseeing the project.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge took place on 17 January this year. The project forms part of the national transportation agreement. The bridge will be reserved for the Borgarlína bus rapid transit system, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
“Work is currently underway on the bridge embankments. That work is largely complete on the Kópavogur side, and is now ongoing on the Reykjavík side,” Davíð said in an interview with Morgunblaðið. He added that the bridge structure itself has now been tendered, and bids will be opened on 16 September.
According to Davíð, the project remains on schedule and within budget.
