Extensive tourism development at Laxárbakki on the southern side of Snæfellsnes is subject to an environmental assessment according to the conclusion of the National Planning Agency.
The project will disturb wetlands that enjoy special protection under the Nature Conservation Act.
Part of the development is also planned in an area defined as an important bird habitat, and sea eagles nest nearby.
Laxárbakki Resort intends to build a 45-room hotel there with bathing pools and a helipad.
The construction plans provide for 45.000 square metres of buildings and 12.5 kilometres of road construction.
