The housing cooperative Búseti is considering taking legal action against Reykjavíkurborg (City of Reykjavík) over the warehouse at Álfabakki, built just a stone’s throw from the cooperative’s residential buildings.
The housing cooperative Búseti is considering suing Reykjavíkurborg because of the warehouse at Álfabakki – built close to the cooperative’s apartment buildings.
Búseti’s lawyer says the city’s public statements differ from what it has said in its dealings with the cooperative.
The Environmental and Natural Resources Appeals Committee recently rejected Búseti’s complaint – which sought to have the construction permit for the so-called green warehouse annulled.
The outcome is disappointing – says Búseti’s lawyer, Maren Albertsdóttir – not least because Reykjavíkurborg has failed to take responsibility for its mistakes.
When the matter became public – elected officials came forward and admitted that mistakes had been made… But during the handling of the appeal – the tone changed completely.
Búseti is now considering other options – including legal action to have the building permit invalidated.
Maren also points out that no operating licence has yet been issued – even though such a permit would be required before operations could begin.
As the Appeals Committee specifically notes – it still remains to be determined what kind of activity will take place there.
