A road worker near Akrafjall was injured when a vehicle entered a work site earlier this week, despite closures.
The Ring Road was closed north of the Hvalfjörður tunnel, with a detour via Akrafjallsvegur.
According to information from Colas, the company responsible for the works, the car was driven straight past the closure in spite of clear signage indicating an active work zone.
The worker extended his hand to signal the driver to stop, but the driver ignored the signal, accelerated, and struck the worker’s hand.
The worker will be off work for several days after sustaining a blow to the arm, according to the company, which also stated that the driver left the scene.
The incident has been reported to the police.
