More households than expected lost hot water when repairs were due to be carried out on a pipeline at Bústaðavegur in Reykjavík this morning. The repair has been postponed while the cause is investigated.
More households were left without hot water this morning when repairs were due to be made to a pipeline at Bústaðavegur in Reykjavík, than had been anticipated.
Hot water was cut off in Hlíðahverfi and nearby areas, and a repair was postponed.
“We planned to repair a pipeline that had recently broken by Bústaðavegur, near the petrol station, and when we cut off the water to make the repair a much larger area lost hot water than we expected, so we backed out of it and stopped. Everyone has hot water again,” says Silja Ingólfsdóttir, information officer at Veitur.
It will not continue today. We will announce it separately once we have looked into the matter and why this happened.
There have been a number of reports of breakdowns in Veitur’s systems in recent weeks.
In addition to the pipeline that was due to be repaired this morning, a pipeline broke in Laugardalur at the beginning of the month and all of Grafarvogur lost hot water at the end of August.
Silja says there are no more failures than usual, even if more reports are coming in.
Veitur operate four systems: electricity, hot water, cold water and sewage, and the reports concern different incidents.
New construction projects are being connected to the system, and that can sometimes cause issues with the hot water, especially with occasional faults in certain spots. […] Perhaps, first of all, we are simply more diligent in reporting them ourselves, and then, as often happens in the autumn when usage increases, more faults appear in the hot water system. But there are no more than before.
