National Planning Agency first asked about meat processing last Friday

The Reykjavik city’s approval for a meat processing plant in the building was due in January 2023. However, it was not until last fall that the word meat processing appears on the building’s drawings, even though construction began in January last year.

If a meat processing plant larger than a thousand square meters is to be built, you must contact the National Planning Agency and check whether the agency considers the meat processing plant to be subject to an environmental assessment.

According to information from the National Planning Agency, no submissions about this meat processing plant in Alfabakki 2 had been received by the agency until Friday.

The agency plans to request further documentation today. The National Planning Agency also needs to check the current master plan. South-Mjodd is a defined central area and it is permitted to have shops, services, offices, entertainment, apartments and the like.

The Reykjavik building official temporarily stopped construction on the meat processing plant at the beginning of last month and requested answers from the owners of the building. Most of the answers have been received, according to information from the city. The Reykjavik building official’s decision is expected this week.
