New hotel tower rises in Reykjavík

The hotel tower on the corner of Skúlagata and Vitastígur in Reykjavík is gradually taking shape, as passers-by will have noticed.

Work on the building was in full swing when the newspaper’s photographer stopped by earlier this week.

The hotel will operate under the Radisson Red brand and will be 17 storeys high. As things stand, the tower will be the last high-rise on Skúlagata that is ten storeys or taller, a wave of development that began in the 1980s.

The hotel will have 17 floors with 211 rooms, plus two basement levels, part of which will be used as a car park.

As reported by Morgunblaðið last year, the tower will be partly assembled from prefabricated steel modules manufactured in Poland.
