A major new sports hall for KR Reykjavík is set to rise in Vesturbær (West Town), with construction company Eykt confirmed as the main contractor.
As reported by mbl.is, the project will cover around 6,700 square metres and feature a 4,400-square-metre indoor football field with artificial turf. The sports hall is primarily designed for training and eight-a-side tournaments.
The City of Reykjavík says the facility will serve a range of sports and community activities once completed in autumn 2027. Officials expect it to become a key hub for the capital’s west-side athletic programmes.
Tendering for the project began later than planned, after KR reportedly failed to submit required documents on time.
When bids were finally opened, Eykt emerged as the preferred contractor with an offer of ISK 3.19 billion, slightly above the city’s budget estimate of ISK 3.03 billion. Competing bids came from companies including: ÞG Verk, Ístak and Íslenskir Aðalverktakar.
The decision to award the contract was approved by Reykjavík’s Procurement and Implementation Council on Thursday, marking the start of one of the city’s most significant sports infrastructure projects in recent years.
