Old electrical wiring and fire hazards from charging electric cars

Given the occasion, HMS would like to point out that when installing charging solutions for electric cars in “older” buildings, it is necessary to ensure safety in accordance with electrical safety regulations, both with regard to the risk of fire and electric shock.

It must be ensured that additions to the wiring do not reduce the safety of the existing wiring, this applies not least to the electrical panel and the safety devices in it

It must be ensured that the existing wiring does not reduce the safety of the new wiring
It must be ensured that the safety devices and electrical circuits can withstand the changed and increased constant load associated with charging electric cars

In homes, electric cars are by far the most energy-intensive electrical appliance and their charging results in considerable current consumption that can pose a danger if not handled correctly. The installation of electrical wiring and equipment for charging electric cars must be carried out by certified electrical contractors and upon completion of the work, they must report it to HMS (final notification).

Detailed information about electrical safety and electric cars can be found here.
