Paying 2 billion Icelandic Kronur for a plot of land

The Reykjavik City Council approved at its last meeting to allocate building plot F to Þjóðarhöll ehf. within the plot at Engjavegur 8, Reykjavík.

The plot in question is between Laugardalshöll and Suðurlandsbraut and is to be used for the construction of a new Iceland sports and events centre. Last December, three teams were selected to participate in a competitive tender for the design and construction of the building.

A proposal submitted by Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson to the Reykjavík City Council states that the City of Reykjavík will sell the building rights to the plot to Þjóðarhöll ehf. for ISK 1,572,000,000. In addition to the payment for the building rights, ISK 489,000,000 will be paid in fees to City of Reykjavík .

The total payment for the building rights and street construction fees is therefore just over two billion ISK, or ISK 2,061,000,000. The amount of street construction fees may increase when they are levied upon the submission of building committee drawings.
