The Department of Architecture receives the Foundry Foundation’s 2025 educational grant

The Foundry Foundation’s Educational Conference or FS25 was held on January 24th. The Foundry Foundation presented the Department of Architecture at the Iceland Academy of the Arts with a grant of 500 thousand ISK.

Massimo Santanicchi, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, accepted the grant at the Foundation’s Education Congress, where he thanked the Foundation for “promoting sustainability and for supporting the values and role of education with special recognition of the work of the Academy of the Arts.”

Jonina Thora Einarsdottir The Head of Sustainability, Quality and Safety and Viktor Sigurjónsson, Marketing Manager at the Foundry, then got to know the Department of Architecture when they paid an official visit to Stakkahlíð. There, they got an insight into the department’s work and met architecture students.

Massimo’s acceptance speech at the 2025 Steyðustöðir Educational Congress:

Good morning, everyone.

My name is Massimo Santanicchia and I am a professor of architecture and dean of the Department of Architecture at the Iceland University of the Arts.

On behalf of the school, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Foundry and the Education Congress 2025 for this scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a Master of Architecture student who designs and works on the most “sustainable” graduation project.

Thank you Steypustöðin and Fræðsluþing 2025 for promoting sustainability and for supporting the values and role of education with special recognition of the work of the Academy of the Arts.

I would like to express my view on sustainability. While technological innovation is a fundamental driver for a sustainable world, we need to understand that sustainability is a journey of the whole of society. A society that is created by gaining new awareness and perception, by creating new solutions, activating new behavioral patterns and thereby cultural change.

With that in mind, I accept this scholarship on behalf of the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

thank you
