About 25 workers are currently working on site on the construction of the new Ölfusá Bridge and the surrounding roadworks—on behalf of the contractor, along with supervision and surveying personnel.
Works have progressed well over the summer. Embankment/backfill is now being placed at the foundations of the temporary bridge on Efri-Laugardælaeyja. The plan is to open the bridge to construction traffic this week.
The main contractor is ÞG-Verk, which has contracted with a Polish plant to fabricate the steel structure for the Ölfusá Bridge; material procurement is already underway.
On the east side of the river, earthworks/soil replacement are in progress on the new road alignment leading to the planned grade-separated junction with National Route 1 east of Selfoss. The project is going well: the embankment is well underway, work on the road bridge foundations is nearing completion, and formwork erection on the bridge piers has begun.

On the west side of the river, loose material has been cleared from the bedrock where the Ölfusá Bridge’s land pier/abutment will stand, and foundation work there has begun. Blasting of a rock ridge that lay along the road alignment just west of the river has been completed. West of that ridge, the roadbed is being surcharged across Hrísmýri over a roughly 700-metre stretch toward the roundabout at Biskupstungnabraut.
Further details on the project status along the banks of the Ölfusá can be found in a new summary from the Icelandic Road Administration.
