RST Net to supply electrical equipment for the Vaðalda wind farm

Landsvirkjun has signed a contract with RST Net ehf. for the design, procurement, manufacture, and installation of electrical equipment for a collector substation at the construction site of the proposed Vaðalda wind farm. The contract is worth just over ISK 450 million, and RST Net’s offer was assessed as the most advantageous of the four bids received.

RST Net will begin design, procurement, and manufacturing immediately, with on-site works expected to start next year. The project involves installing electrical equipment in the collector substation that connects the wind farm’s turbines to the grid, and completion is targeted for late 2027.

Design, procurement, and manufacturing begin immediately

Key elements of the contract include the supply and installation of 33 kV and 11 kV distribution systems along with station-service transformers. A 400 V main switchboard and two DC distribution boards will be fabricated and installed. RST Net will also supply, program, and install the control and protection systems, and handle inspection, terminations, and connections for the 33 kV and 11 kV cables. Finally, the contract covers the supply and installation of 220 kV through-bushings, along with various ancillary and additional works.

“This is a major milestone in the development of the Vaðalda wind farm,” says Sigurgeir B. Geirsson, Vaðalda Project Director. “We are very pleased to be contracting with an Icelandic company that has deep expertise and experience in this field. This will ensure robust electrical systems to connect wind power to the grid and support the energy transition of the future.”
