The firms Húsasmiðjan and Dalsnes faced each other in court over payments related to the construction of a large warehouse and office building. Each claimed that the other owed them money.
Dalsnes must pay Húsasmiðjan ISK 182.000.000, according to a newly delivered ruling by Reykjavík District Court.
The companies were in dispute over payments connected to the construction of a 15.500-square-metre warehouse and office building at Korngarðar in Reykjavík.
Both companies believed they were owed money by the other.
A panel of judges concluded that Dalsnes owed Húsasmiðjan ISK 281.000.000 but, in turn, was owed ISK 99.000.000 by it. Therefore, Dalsnes must pay Húsasmiðjan the difference – ISK 182.000.000.
Dalsnes was also ordered to pay Húsasmiðjan ISK 5.000.000 in legal costs, even though the judges noted that such costs are usually waived in cases of this kind, meaning that each company would normally bear its own expenses.
In this instance, however, the judges found that part of Dalsnes’s claim had been groundless and had unavoidably caused Húsasmiðjan additional costs.
Dalsnes must therefore pay those costs, which stemmed from its demand for compensation over lost rental income.
