Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration) has decided to restrict the axle load of vehicles on twelve roads in West Iceland and the Westfjords because of major damage to the road surface. Potholes are widespread on roads.
There is major damage to the road surface on roads in West Iceland and the Westfjords and potholes are widespread on their surfaces. Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration) has therefore decided to restrict axle loads on twelve roads and asks people to drive carefully.
Vegagerðin drew attention to this this morning, alongside information about road conditions, noting that potholes were very widespread on roads in West Iceland. Around 10 am it then announced that axle loads would be restricted to seven or ten tonnes on twelve roads in West Iceland and the Westfjords.
The restrictions take effect at 12 pm today.
The permitted axle load will be reduced to seven tonnes on Vestfjarðavegur between Dalsmynni and the junction with Djúpvegur in Króksfjörður. On the other roads the axle load will be ten tonnes.
Axle load restrictions
60 Vestfjarðavegur from Dalsmynni to the junction with Djúpvegur 61 in Króksfjörður will have an axle load restriction of 7 tonnes.
