The new Bíldudalsskóli building will be taken into use this autumn. It is around three years since the old school building was closed because of mould.
The new Bíldudalsskóli building was inaugurated at a formal ceremony this week. There was an open house at the school, where guests were offered a guided tour of the new building, and speeches and musical performances were given to mark the occasion.
Both pre-school and primary school activities in Bíldudalur will be under one roof in the new facility. There are just under thirty children of pre-school and primary school age on Bíldudalur.
The old Bíldudalur school building had to be closed around three years ago because of mould. As a result, school activities had to be moved into other buildings in the town, such as Skrímslasetrið, Muggstofa and the parish hall Gamli skóli.

Lilja Rut Rúnarsdóttir, headteacher of Bíldudalsskóli, says the building’s problems have had a variety of unfortunate effects on the town.
This is of course not an ideal option, teaching like this inside Skrímslasetrið and at Muggstofa, and this has of course affected more people than us. Senior citizens’ social activities have had to move out because we have had to take over that building too. We have tried to make the very best of this and everyone simply joined forces to make it work.

Lilja Rut praises the views that students and staff will enjoy.
The building is naturally extremely magnificent. I will allow myself to [also] assert that it has the most magnificent view, where we simply look out to sea and straight across to the mountain.
Lilja Rut also says it is very pleasing that pre-school and primary school activities are moving to the same place.
We know, of course, that environment and organisation matter a great deal. The conditions that are there now fully support play and curiosity, creativity and purposeful learning… I think this will work out very well. We are incredibly proud of this and cannot wait to begin teaching there.
