More sellers lower prices on flats

Flat prices were unchanged in April and are probably unchanged in May.

The property market is quiet at present and the number of sellers lowering the asking price for their flats has increased, according to a new report from Húsnæðis- og mannvirkjastofnun (Housing and Construction Authority).

It is more difficult to sell expensive flats than cheaper ones: flats in apartment buildings that are larger than 120 square metres are selling worst.

People have increasingly moved over to non-indexed loans on fixed interest rates.

The report also states that more tenants are living with burdensome housing costs than before. Market rent has risen more than the lowest wages since 2014.
