Landsvirkjun signs contract with Ístak on the construction of structures for the Iceland first wind power plant

Landsvirkjun has reached an agreement with Ístak hf. for various structures for Vaðölduver, or Búrfellslundur, where the country’s first wind farm is being built. The contract is worth over 6.8 billion ISK.

This is according to a statement from Landsvirkjun, which states that Ístak is expected to start work in May and that the project will be completed in the summer of 2027.

“Seven bids were received for the project. Ístak’s bid was assessed as the most favorable, taking into account the total amount of its bid and the carbon cost bid.

The contract includes the construction of reinforced concrete and stone foundations for 28 wind turbines, as well as the construction of crane stands for the installation of the wind turbines, along with all earthworks. Ístak will also build a 1,000 m² storage facility in the area, a concrete building that will be used for various equipment and workshops.

The storage facility will be connected to Landsnet’s substation. A considerable amount of pipes will also need to be laid in the area and dug for them, and water supply, sewage and gravel plots will be prepared.

First part ready in 2026
Landsvirkjun signed an agreement with the German company in November. Enercon for the purchase, installation and operation of the 28 wind turbines, which will be built at Vaðölduveri. The first half of them will be commissioned next year and the second half in 2027,” the announcement says.
