Real estate company Heimar has decided to introduce paid parking at the Smáralind shopping center in Kópavogur in the near future.
Attendance at Smáralind has increased significantly in recent years, and parking spaces at the complex have increasingly been used for long-term parking.
Parking at Smáralind will remain free for up to four hours. After that, a parking fee of ISK 450 per hour will be charged.
Will not affect customers
“Everyone will still be able to park at Smáralind for up to four hours without paying anything. Those who will notice the changes most are people who have been leaving cars and other vehicles there for extended periods,” said Baldur M. Helgason, Heimar’s Managing Director of Commercial Operations, in a statement.
According to Heimar, the vast majority of visits to Smáralind are shorter than four hours, meaning the change should not affect most customers.
“With this arrangement, we can better ensure that parking spaces are available when people come to shop, dine, or use services in the building.”
Implementation of the system will begin this autumn and will be carried out in phases. The parking system will be operated and serviced by Green Parking.
