Construction of the new treatment centre and research facility for the New National Hospital (Landspítali) at Hringbraut in Reykjavík is now expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
It is estimated that it will take an additional 1.5 to 2 years for the facility to become fully operational, that is, during the years 2029–2030.
This is stated in an administrative review by the National Audit Office concerning staffing and patient flow at Landspítali, which was published this week.
The Audit Office notes that the construction schedule has not been met. Six years ago, when work commenced, it was anticipated that the treatment centre would be commissioned in 2023.
